Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday because I LOVE food! It is my favorite meal of the year. One of the best parts of the meal is the stuffing. My family has always made a wet dressing. Below I will include how to make it. If you want to stuff a chicken, cut the recipe in half.
Tools you'll need:
Large bowl
Skillet
Cutting board
Vegetable chopping knife
Mixing spoon
Measuring spoons
Ingredients:
4 Stalks celery
1 Large onion
1 Stick salted butter
4 Large eggs
2 Loaves of super stale bread (I personally love one loaf sourdough or italian and 1 loaf rye) or 2 bags of dry stuffing cubes
1/4 Cup dry parsley
2 Tbs Sage (dried)
2 Tbs Rosemary (dried)
2 Tbs Thyme (dried)
2 tsp Salt
1 tsp black pepper
Instructions:
In the skillet, over medium heat, melt the stick of butter. Dice the onion and celery and add to the butter. Add all seasonings and herbs. Lets cook down but not brown.
While the onions and celery are cooking, in the large bowl, break up the bread into small pieces in the bowl and wet down. Add and stir in the eggs. You don't want complete soup, but the dressing should be saturated.
Add the onion/celery mix to the watered down bread and onions. Stir through completely. If you are cooking it alone, put in an oven safe dish and back at 350 for an hour or so. But the best way to cook this is stuff in and around either a turkey or a chicken. Stuff the salted bird's cavity and then any remaining stuffing, put around the bird in the roaster. The drippings from the bird will mix into the dressing and it is oh so delicious! Yum Yum!
